This was my first time to the annual "Fifth major" at TPC Sawgrass located in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. I have played rounds at this course on four occasions but have never seen the course as a spectator love being played by professionals. This course is STUNNING! If you have never been and are a golfer or fan of the PGA this tournament and course is a MUST. Of course the most popular location to watch the tournament is where I spent the majority if my day...the 17th island hole. It is by far the most challenging hole in golf and always gets the pros thinking. As I said previously I have played this course four times and the first time I did I plunked it in the water (not since though since I learned the green) so I have personal experience with this hole.
While sitting at this hole for the day if saw at least four balls go in the drink by professionals...and on virtually every other shot I saw them take the "safe" route and put ball nowhere near the hole. There, of course, were some daredevils that took it right to the hole and were rewarded if they didn't spin it back in the lake. We watched the hole until the Tiger Woods group came through at which point I decided to follow him through the rest of his round (started on back nine so he was only nearly done with half his round). I walked past my favorite part of the course...the Clubhouse...what a Beauty!
You will probably find no better clubhouse on the tour....
Like I said we got to watch Tiger finish his round and the best part is that the tournament allowed phones on the course and you could take pictures as long as the pictures were not during play and away from the course of play. This is unusual to say the least on the PGA tour but something I wish every event would go to as people do need to be in contact with others and it is far easier if someone gets lost to contact another person in your party. So of course after the round was over I got a shot of Tiger going back in the clubhouse.
All in all a great experience at the Players and I will definitely do this again in the future...who knows perhaps a 2014 impulse vacation?
