Earlier in June I had been told that my favorite English football team was coming to DC and even better...they were using DC as their home base for training. This team for me is Chelsea!!! I have been a Blues fan for a while since Michael Ballack was playing there and turned me on to them due to my love for Germany.
I was able to find out that they were practicing at Catholic University of America so I went over there to see them train as it was only a couple stops on the Metro from my office. This was a real treat to see my favorite team and their stars in person.
Not only this but I found out where they were staying while in DC so I went to have lunch at the hotel. At that point I was able to meet the team and get pictures and autographs from them. It was a blast! Only issue was of course that the hotel (understandably) didn't want their guests bothered by the fans. We did our best to try and keep to decorum.
I was able to get all my jerseys signed and they are now hanging in cases at my home.
The game itself was your typical preseason warm up which saw the team play nearly their entire team and really not show much beyond getting the lads in better shape. Is ill say you don't go to these games expecting to win or to see them at their peak. You go it to see a team you don't normally get to see but on TV.
A few photos from the game, training, and hotel
